OSI Layer Functions

  1. Application layer functions as an interface to applications with network functionality, control how applications can access the network, and then make the error messages. Protocols at this layer is HTTP, FTP, SMTP, and NFS.

Protocols at this level is a software redirektor (redirector software), such as the Workstation service (in Windows NT) and the Network shell (such as Virtual Network Computing (VNC) or Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).

  6. The data link layer function determines how the data bits are grouped into a format called a frame.
